In recent years government members have succeeded in keeping the prices for hardware and computers much higher than in most neighboring countries.
Import taxes and duty were put up so high, that shop owners were making a fortune with some "private" shopping trips to Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur, that were tremendously lucrative thanks to cheap tickets sold buy Air Asia or Cathay Pacific.

So far the best place to buy hardware in Sri Lanka are all inside the Majestic Shopping Center on Galle Road or inside the building right next to it.
In addition there are two chains called neat computers and pc house which
have independent stores in Colombo, Kandy and Galle.
