Unawatuna Bay is restored
Some time ago the small fishing village near Galle was often listed among the top 10 beaches in the world when many tourists had fallen in love with lush nature, friendly people and tasty food.
A little later also party goers from around the world had discovered the charm of Unawatuna Beach and almost every night of the week they got pulled into bars and beach discos by some solid bass sound which had usually shaken the whole bay until the crack of dawn during the high season.
But a while ago the popularity of the Island's most famous beach had gotten badly sabotaged when some government officials had decided to install a breakwater in order to wash the entire beach away.
Hotel operators had to refund disappointed tourists and the depression among operators and investors was large, as they had lost a fair share of their room bookings.
The good news is, that the new government has shown some mercy with Unawatuna and some ship loads of finest sand were brought in to restore, what once had been one of the Island's most successful attractions.
Before count;less jobs and income had suffered badly from the demolition, but now, the beach is better and bigger than ever before.
