Being the nearest big party beach to Bandaranaike Airport and Colombo city has given Negombo a priority status among tourists, who use the local hotels for a short stop over before or after a late or an early flight.
Negombo is easy to reach by taxi or Tuk Tuk and equipped with a wide and long beach the town has also emerged as a popular playground for sports, parties, entertainment and tourism with also some budget guest houses.

The small railway station does get jammed at times, but so very impressive were the friendly officers, who look well after foreigners that come to explore the Sri Lankan railway facilities.
