The absence of police and army had forced this group
of survivors to stay with the very helpful Da Silva
family up at the Unawatuna Temple.
They had been living there for 2 days until most of
them where evacuated to Kandy.
Among them had been a Dutch family with four children
from which one of them had almost lost it`s life, when
the watchman of Surfcity, Kalu had pulled her out of
the water.
Unfortunately he himself had to get over the loss of
his mother, who had died in the flood at the age of
78.
Kalu had to identify her under a huge pile of dead
bodies at the hospital in Galle.
