Right after the tsunami wave thousands of injured people had streamed into the central Galle hospital, where doctors had not even been able to look after all the victims.

Also for those victims from near by areas like Hikkaduwa the hospital had been the only available destination, so that some patients with broken arms and legs had not received any treatment at all after even 24 hours.

Only enabled by private initiative a German woman had been evacuated to a Colombo hospital after nobody had been able to look after her severe injuries.

Doctors and nurses had been doing what they can, but with also thousands of dead bodies to take care of the hospital had to go through a total nightmare at every level, which had exceeded every possible capacity.
