Also the nearby City Galle was devastated and the hospital
had not been able to handle the thousands of victims.
Even mass graves were not big enough leaving countless
dead bodies piled up in the hot midday sun and even
some on main road.
All over the area the smell of death had been in the
air and many tourists had to wait for their evacuation
under the complete absence of military and police.
On late Tuesday Dec. 28 the first Red Cross Convoy
was seen on it`s around 500 kilometers drive from Colombo
through the mountains of Rathnapura bringing supply
and help to the shattered Southern Province.
Also military had started to secure at least Galle
City whilst even one week after the wave no security
had reached Unawatuna. In addition the supply with water
and food had been very poor with only occasional trucks
dropping lunch packets on main road for those, who had
been waiting.
