New York City

Lower Manhattan skyline through the cables of Brooklyn Bridge.

In 1883 the Brooklyn Bridge had been the first suspension bridge in the US to connect the independent cities of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Cables are made from parallel steel wires that were spun in place and the decision to use steel instead of standard iron wire had been a technical revolution.

Four 15 3/4-inch cables are the backbone of the bridge, each is comprised of 19 strands, containing a total of 5.434 steel wires.

Still today the Brooklyn Bridge is a marvel and a landmark of NYC, that achieved also a woeful famousness through sustained suiciders and Hart Crane gave immortality to the bridge by this wonderful poem.
